How Frequently Should I Get My Teeth Cleaned?

Oral hygiene is essential not only for the health of our teeth, but also for our overall health. It is recommended to brush our teeth at least twice a day, in the morning, after we get up and in the evening, right before going to bed, but the best way to achieve perfect oral hygiene and to prevent the development of teeth and gum problems is to get our teeth cleaned professionally by our Littleton family dentist as well, at least twice a year.

However, the twice-a-year rule is just a general rule of thumb, one that should be followed by people who do not have any serious teeth and gum problems – if you have moderate or advanced gum disease or other oral health problems, you need to step up the frequency of professional dental cleaning sessions.

The reason why the cleaning routine that you follow at home needs to be combined with professional dental care is that no cleaning done at home is perfect, not even if you do it by book, moving your brush in the right direction and for the right amount of time. Dentists and dental hygienists use tools that rotate at high speeds to remove even the last trace of plaque, bacteria calcified on the surface of the teeth that accumulate even on teeth that are properly and regularly cleaned at home.
